How much unstructured, free play time does your child typically get each day?

Very little—most of their time is scheduled with structured activities or screen time. About 30 minutes to 1 hour of free play mixed with other activities. 1–2 hours of unstructured time, though it could be more consistent. At least 1–2 hours daily of protected, unstructured creative time.

When your child suggests an unconventional idea or 'silly' solution to a problem, what's your typical reaction?

I gently correct them and show them the 'right' way to do things. I acknowledge it but usually redirect them toward more practical approaches. I ask them to explain their thinking and explore it a bit before deciding. I genuinely encourage their thinking by asking 'Tell me more about that idea' and validating creative exploration.

What materials and resources are easily accessible to your child for creative play?

Art supplies and toys are mostly stored away or restricted to specific times. A few basic art supplies are available, but not much variety or easy access. A decent range of materials (paper, markers, blocks, recycled items) that my child can access with permission. Diverse materials—art supplies, building items, recycled materials, and natural items—are readily accessible for spontaneous creative play.

How do you typically respond when your child makes a mistake or their creative project doesn't turn out as planned?

I point out what went wrong and suggest how to 'fix' it or do it better next time. I'm supportive but sometimes express concern about the outcome or quality. I acknowledge the effort and help them see what they learned, though I could normalize failure more. I celebrate the process over the outcome and help them see mistakes as part of creative learning and growth.
