I tell them not to worry and that everything will be fine—there's nothing to stress about. I listen and try to reassure them, but I'm not always sure what to say to help them feel better. I validate their feelings and explain that change can feel scary, but we'll work through it together. I validate their emotions, ask open-ended questions to help them process, and create a concrete plan with them.

How do you currently prepare your child for major transitions (new school, move, new daycare)?

I don't do much preparation—I figure they'll adjust once they're there. I talk to them about it a few times before it happens, but I don't have a structured plan. I visit the new place with them, read transition books together, and create a visual timeline. I do all of the above plus role-play the experience at home and arrange meetings with key people involved.

During transitions, how consistent are you with your child's daily routines and rituals?

Routines often fall apart because everything feels chaotic during transitions. I try to keep some routines going, but they're not always consistent. I maintain most daily routines like bedtime and meals, even though other things are changing. I intentionally protect key routines and rituals—they're my priority during transitions because I know they provide security.

If your child shows signs of struggle 2-3 weeks into a transition (regression, anxiety, sleep issues), what would you do?

I'd assume they're being difficult and try to push them to 'just get over it' faster. I'd be concerned but wouldn't be sure whether it's normal or if I should seek help. I'd increase my support at home and monitor the situation to see if it improves over the next few weeks. I'd implement targeted strategies, celebrate small wins, and be ready to seek professional support if struggles persist beyond 4-6 weeks.
